WordPress is a popular content management system or CMS which I, and many others, use to create beautiful and functional websites and blogs. It is a free and open source blogging tool as well as publishing platform, which is powered by PHP and MySQL.
WordPress users can install and switch between their favourite themes at any time, without altering any informational content. Here is a list of some of my favourite Free WordPress themes of 2011:
1/ Amphion Lite
A blogging design that comes with 2 theme skins, 2 custom widgets, 2 short codes and 2 WordPress menus. Featured articles are displayed prominently on the home page in an image slider.
2/Aurelius
3/Balita
An eCommerce theme designed for Smashing Magazine that was created to help sell children’s toys and related products. It was designed using HTML5 and CSS3 and features a beautiful home page slider, custom shopping cart and Facebook integration.
4/Blissful Blog
David Airey has released his old blog’s design as a free WordPress theme. As you probably know, that minimal design offers the perfect platform for your writing.
6/Showcase
A portfolio design that could also be used for a corporate website or blog.
7/Sight
Sight is a powerful theme that is best suited to magazines-style blogs. It was built on a grid and has a modern minimalist style. Customize the content view using either the standard blog view or the grid view.
Spectacular includes short codes for styling content. An elegant theme that is perfect for blogs
A good choice for a business or portfolio website. The home page features a beautiful jQuery slider. It also features post image thumbnails, social media integration, built in page navigation, custom font integration and much more.
10/Yoko
Yoko is a modern and flexible theme, with a responsive layout based on CSS3 media queries. The design is optimized for big desktop screens, tablets and smartphones. You can use new post formats (such as Gallery, Aside and Quote), choose your own logo and header image, and customize the background and link color.
